5th Grade Summer Reading: Crash by Jerry Spinelli

Crash

Everybody knows Crash Coogan, seventh-grade football sensation. He's been moving down everything in his path since the time he could walk-and Penn Webb, his dweeby, vegetable-eating neighbor, is his favorite target. After all, Webb's not just a nerd, he's a cheerleader too. Crash and his best buddy, Mike, can't think of anything more hilarious than making Webb's life miserable. But Crash starts to realize that Webb has something he may never gain, no matter how many touchdowns he scores. And when Mike takes a prank too far, maybe even for Crash, the football star has to choose which side he's really on.

NOTICE: Change to Blog Requirements

Greetings 5th graders! There has been a change in requirements for your summer reading. You no longer have to write a response to others' answers. If you have done so already, don't delete it. However, from here on, all you have to do is respond to each question with at least 4 complete sentences, utilizing words from the question. Keep reading! -- Mrs. Duarte and Mrs. Hyde

Suggested Pacing Guide

This Blog will be open from June 5th to September 4th. You MUST have everything completed on or before September 4th to receive credit.

Hello future 5th graders!! Welcome! As far as this book club goes, it is totally up to you whether you choose to read the book all at once and answer questions right away so you can enjoy the rest of your summer, or if you want to take the whole summer to read it slowly, just as long as your responses are done and submitted by September 4th.

Please make sure your post is published before moving on to the the next question.

Just remember to take your time when answering your response questions. You MUST have the following to get full credit:

-Complete sentences that restate your question in your answer

-Minimum of 4 sentences

-Pay attention to your spelling

-Respond to all of my questions

Do your best, and manage your time so you don't stress out by waiting too long-don't forget you have IXL for math this summer too!

About the Author

A graduate of Gettysburg College, JERRY SPINELLI went to win the Newberry Medal for Maniac Magee, the sixth of his more than fifteen acclaimed books for young readers. They include Milkweed; Stargirl; Love, Stargirl; Wringer; Knots in My Yo-yo String: The Autobiography of a Kid; Hokey Pokey; and My Daddy and Me. Growing up, Jerry Spinelli played no fewer than five different sports-from football and track to basketball. He wanted to be a shortstop in the majors, long before it occurred to him to be a writer.

Crash came out of his desire to include the beloved Penn Relays of his home state of Pennsylvania in a book. And, of course, to show the world a little bit of what jocks are made of.
