Crash
Everybody knows Crash Coogan, seventh-grade football sensation. He's been moving down everything in his path since the time he could walk-and Penn Webb, his dweeby, vegetable-eating neighbor, is his favorite target. After all, Webb's not just a nerd, he's a cheerleader too. Crash and his best buddy, Mike, can't think of anything more hilarious than making Webb's life miserable. But Crash starts to realize that Webb has something he may never gain, no matter how many touchdowns he scores. And when Mike takes a prank too far, maybe even for Crash, the football star has to choose which side he's really on.

Henry used to tell Penn stories from the past. Penn has only seen Henry once since they moved to Pennsylvania. Penn also wrote that he has been practicing for the Penn relays.

    23. How Crash thinks that track and football differ is that there is no ball in track. In football, you ram your opponent, in track, you beat them by running. In track, there are no pads, in football, you wear tons of padding. In track there is nothing in the way to plow, just a string across the finish line.

  4. Crash discovered a doll house in the backyard. There was a dollhouse in the backyard but it was well hidden.. There was piece of pizza in the dollhouse.. The dollhouse had a tiny kitchen and a tiny dining table. Abby put it there to create a habitat.

    Crash notices some changes in himself. He did not what to shoot Penn with the water gun but wanted to shoot Mike. He decided that Penn wasn’t so bad. He didn’t really want to be friends with Mike anymore. He also made catfish cakes for Abby’s birthday.

Penn Webb’s grandfather ran in the Penn Relays in 1919 and shortly after that he raised a family. He never forgot that day that he ran in the Penn Relays. Penn’s grandfather feels like he is disappearing like the prairies because he is 93 years old.

In the year 1919 he ran for his college track team in the famous Penn Relays. Penn misses his grandfather and his grandfather told him stories. When Penn was born his great grandfather named him after the Penn Relays. Sometimes Penn’s great-grandfather makes Penn sad when he says that he feels himself disappearing like the prairie.

    23. According to the text, track and football are different to Crash. In track you do not use shoulder pads or helmets like you do in football. Also you have nothing in your way except a string for the finish line when you do track. In football you have the other team in your way to block your touchdowns. There is no ball in track, but there is a ball when you play football.

  12. Crash daydreams about the Penn Relay. He dreams about being the last runner and to cross the finish line first. In his dream all the other runners are ahead of him and he passes them. He dreams that he won the race and everyone was cheering “Coooooooooooogan.”.
    Crash’s family changed at the end of the book. Their mom works half time now. The father lost the battle for the backyard. Abby wouldn’t let him mow the lawn and it now looks like a habitat. Crash and Penn are now best friends.

    22. In class, the students had to write an essay about someone they know. Webb wrote his essay about his great grandfather, Henry Willhide Webb III. He chose him because he is so important to him. What makes his grandfather important to him is that his grandfather gave him his name. His grandfather can understand how he feels- even though he is 80 years older than him! He travels all the way from North Dakota to Pennsylvania for the Penn Relays which is an important event to Webb. He is his best friend.
    23. Crash actually sees some similarities between track and football. He thinks that they both require speed and it is just as fun to beat a kid in a race as it is to plow a kid down in football. A difference is there are no shoulder pads or ball in track. There is nothing to demolish except the string that marks the finish line.

Track can also be an individual sport, but football is always a team sport.
